Featured Product: FUJIOH Cooker Hood FR-ST2190 & Hybrid Hob FH-IC7020
If you’re considering an induction hob for your kitchen, you may be wondering if a hood is even necessary to add on to your kitchen.
As induction cooking mainly uses electric currents generated from magnetic induction to heat cookware directly, this means the method of cooking differs from other forms of cooking hobs. Most of which use thermal conduction such as gas or electric elements, where heat is transferred from a burner to the cookware.
While it’s true they heat cookware differently, it’s still important to have a hood for induction hob in kitchen as you will still need to vent some level of cooking grease, oils, smoke, and strong cooking smells from your home.
The trick is to get the right options of cooker hood to match the induction hob in the kitchen, so it’s important to select the right one.
Both induction hobs and stove hobs have the same basic function of heating up your cookware to cook, and food that is being heated and cooked will always release some level of oils, smokes, and smells.
Stove hobs tend to generate more smells as they produce more smoke and carbon monoxide from the open flames. This is greatly reduced with induction hobs as it uses magnetic induction instead.
However, unless you have a well-ventilated house, it’s still likely you’ll need a cooker hood when using an induction hob to handle the smoke and grease from the food that is being cooked.
Cooker hoods main objective is to clean the air in the kitchen while you are cooking, so when selecting one to match with your induction hob, there are a few factors you will need to consider.
Choosing the right hood also depends on the location and size of your induction hob. The goal is to ensure the cooker hood should cover the entire cooking area. This means your cooker hood should ideally be either equal to or bigger than the width of the hob. For example, if your hob measures up to 750mm wide, a cooker hood width of 900mm is advised.
Generally, the hood recommended distance of between 445mm (for inclined hood) or 750mm (for chimney hood) above your hob.
There are mainly two types of hoods: ducted vs ductless hood.
Ducted hoods work by suctioning all the smoke and grease in the kitchen and direct it outside. Ductless types filter the oil and smoke from the cooking fume by suctioning the air and releasing the cleaner air back into the kitchen.
From these two types, you have three different styles of hoods to consider:

You can look into the wall mount and the under cabinet mount. The under cabinet mount saves the most space, especially when ductless but it’s also the least effective at removing hot air. The wall mount is the most common type of hood and looks the best overall as it has many different styles and sizes available, but it works better with ducting and is more expensive compared to the under cabinet mount.
Finally, it’s important to consider your cooking style to select the right hood. If you cook a lot, especially with a lot of grease and smells, it’s best to get an excellent hood for better ventilation, even if you use an induction hob. You would also want the cooking hood to be easy to clean and maintain, as this will ensure its long-life span and will make it easy to keep the kitchen clean and fresh.
